Unable to automatically update the value on Date Picker field to today's date every time the submission is resubmitted

    Hello,

I have searched this topic in the help center and there seems to be a lot of interest around having the ability to conditionally change a date field on a form any time it is edited. I have seen recommendations about using a hidden date field that gets set to the current date & unhidden using conditional logic in conjunction with the Get URL widget...but that only works one time, and I need a specific date field to update every time a form is edited AND resubmitted.

Unfortunately, the "Last Update Date" does not work for this because it updates even when I trigger an action to request an update, and I lose the last date the submitter actually resubmitted the form.

Plus, I need to be able to put the last submitted date on a PDF generated from the submission.

Having seen this question so often I feel like this is something there has to be a solution to by now but that I am just not using the right query to find the answer...but I've probably spent well over an hour in just researching a solution already so now I am reaching out due to frustration in not finding a way to do this.

Please tell me there has been enough outreach regarding this topic that there is now a known way to either conditionally trigger an update to a date field on a form to = today's date however many times the form is updated OR disable the "Last Update Date" to be adjusted unless the form is actually resubmitted (not by updates in the table).

This functionality would relate to any of the forms I use.

    Thank you,
    Christine

    Hi Christine,

Although it isn't possible to change the value on Date Picker field with Default Date field set to Current. As a workaround, you can tick the checkbox labeled When A Submission Is Edited on Send Email Automatically field on Autoresponder Email so that the user will receive an email notification of the submission they've edited, including its current date. You can clone my demo form, or you can do it on your end. Let me show you how to do it:

    1. In Form Builder, click on Settings on the orange navigation bar.
    2. Click on the Emails tab on the left part of the screen.
    3. Click on the Pencil icon on Autoresponder Email.

    4. Click on the Advanced tab next to the Recipients tab.
    5. Tick the checkbox labeled When A Submission Is Edited on Send Email Automatically field.

    6. Scroll down, click on Save on the lower-right part of the screen.

That's it. As for your other question, I've moved that to a new thread. You can check that out here.

Give it a try and let us know if you have any other questions.

    Hello,

My forms are already set to use the autoresponder - I am not trying to provide a submission date to the requester...I need the PDF that generates to show the last date the requester edited/re-submitted the form.

As mentioned, I have seen this question asked probably a dozen or more times in your help center over years - there should be a simple field/widget/way to conditionally reset or update a date field to today's day (i.e. when the submit button is clicked).

Not having this functionality just makes more work for either myself or the requester to remember to manually update a date field each time an update is made to a submission to ensure the date submitted is accurately recorded on the PDF.

PLEASE ask your development team to add this functionality.

    Thank you,
    Christine

    Hi Christine,

Unfortunately, the feature you’re looking for isn’t currently available at Jotform right now, we've gone ahead and escalated your request to our Developers. Exactly when or if it's developed depends on their workload, how viable it is, and how many other users also request it. If there are any updates, we’ll circle back to this thread and let you know.

In the meantime, let us know if you have any other questions.
