Hi Creative_sync,
If you want to update the name of a Sign Template, you can easily do it in Sign Builder. Here's how to do it:
- In Sign Builder, click on the Settings tab in the top orange bar.
- Update the Document Title.
Give it a try and let us know if you need any other help.

Thank you for your reply however, I'm not looking to change the name of the template. I want to rename the document before it's sent to the client. Meaning the template name internally should stay the same, but the document when it's sent I want to be a relevant document name NOT the default name of the template.
Does that make sense? -

Hi Creative_sync,
Right now, the name of the Sign Document will also be the name of the PDF document when sent to your assignee.
While the feature you're looking for isn't available at Jotform right now, we've gone ahead and escalated your request to our developers. Exactly when or if it's developed depends on their workload, how viable it is, and how many other users also request it. If there are any updates, we’ll circle back to this thread and let you know.
Thanks for your patience and understanding, we appreciate it.

Thank you!
So just confirm, whenever a contract or document is sent out to the client to sign there's no way to have a unique name for each document or PDF that it generates? It will always have the name of the template? -

Hi Creative_sync,
Yes, currently when the document is shared or sent to sign, the name will be that set in Sign Builder. Is not possible to assign a different name for the same form template.
Let us know if you need any other help.

Hi Creative_sync,
Great news—the Custom Filename feature is now live for Jotform Sign Documents and Sign Forms, just like you asked for! With Custom Filename, you can name your downloaded documents using a mix of static text and dynamic fields, so your files are easier to organize, search through, and manage.
Whether you want one consistent name for all your documents or prefer to pull in form fields or signer data for precision, you’re in control. This means you can find exactly what you need right when you need it.
Note: The HIPAA PHI enabled fields on your forms can’t be used for file naming for security reasons. Here’s how to set your Custom Filename on Jotform Sign Forms:
- In Form Builder, in the orange navigation bar at the top of the page, click on Settings.
- Then, in the menu to the left side of the page, click on Jotform Sign.
- In the File Name section, click on the Pencil icon on the right side of the File Name field to edit it.
- Enter a name or click on the Form Fields Dropdown menu to select a Form Field Name, and that’s it.
To set up your Custom Filename on your Jotform Sign Documents:
- In Sign Builder, in the green navigation bar at the top of the page, click on Settings.
- Then, in the File Name section, click on the Pencil icon on the right side of the File Name field to edit it.
- Enter a name or click on the Form Fields Dropdown menu to select a Form Field Name, and that’s it.
Here’s what your files will look like after downloading them with the Custom Filenames you used:
Give it a try, and, as always, reach out if you have any questions or need any help.
