Freelance Invoice FAQs
1) What are the important elements of freelance invoices?
All the necessary information for freelance invoices falls into four main sections:
- Vendor information (i.e. the freelancer)
- Invoice details
- Client information
- List of services
2) What information should be included in a freelance invoice?
Let’s go over the information you should include in each section of your freelance invoice.
In the vendor identification section, include these items:
- Your business name
- Business address
- Phone number
- Email address
- Logo
Include this information in the invoice details section:
- Invoice number: Each invoice should have a unique number to identify it. You and your clients will use invoice numbers as references for taxes and accounting, and they’ll make it easier to track payments. (Jotform can generate unique numbers for you!)
- Invoice date: This is the date that you’re issuing the invoice.
Include these items in the client information section:
- Client name
- Address
- Phone number
- Email address
Include this information in the list of services section:
- A list of all the individual products or services for which you’re currently charging the client, including the date of service for each and, if applicable, the time it took to complete the job
- The price (and quantity, if applicable) for each product or service provided
- Total amount due
- Payment due date (and the penalty for late payment, if applicable)
3) How do I create a freelance invoice?
You can create a freelance invoice from scratch using any word processing software, but the easiest, fastest method is to use Jotform’s freelance invoice template. It already has all the elements in place, so you simply need to customize it by plugging in your own information. You can create a professional-looking invoice in minutes. Plus, using a template ensures you never forget to include any important information.
4) How do I customize a freelance invoice template?
To customize a Jotform template, you simply need to add information pertaining to your company and the client, the services you provided, and the invoice details. The Jotform editor makes it easy to input information, add and move fields, and change the font and colors to match your brand. You can also track and manage your invoices in Jotform Tables and accept payments through an online order form.
5) Who needs a freelance invoice template?
Everyone who does freelance work needs to use invoices and can benefit from using an invoice template, including graphic designers, content writers, copyeditors, photographers, web developers, virtual assistants, bookkeepers/accountants, and more.
