Jotform makes it easy to get real-time updates on your PayPal payments with Instant Payment Notification (IPN). IPN is a message PayPal sends whenever a transaction is completed, giving you all the details of the payment made through your form. This guide is just for PayPal Business accounts. If you’re looking for info on PayPal Standard accounts instead, Our guide on How to Enable IPN on Your PayPal Account walks you through everything.
Setting up an IPN on your PayPal Business account only takes a minute—here’s how:
- Login to your PayPal Business Account, and in your PayPal dashboard, click on your Avatar/Profile picture on the top-right side of the screen.
- Then, in the Dropdown menu that opens, click on Account Settings.
- Now, click on the Website Payments in the menu on the left to open your Website Payments page.
- Next, in the Instant Payment Notifications section, click on Update.
- Then, click on Choose IPN Settings.
- Now, add your Notification URL in the Notification URL field for your listener. If you’re not using IPN outside Jotform, you can use https://ipn.jotform.com/ipns/paypal.php.
Note
The default notification URL doesn’t matter. Jotform only needs IPN to be enabled.
- Then, select Receive IPN messages (Enabled) to enable your listener.
- Finally, click on Save, and you’re all set.
That’s it! IPN is now enabled for your PayPal Business account, so Jotform can instantly update you whenever a payment is completed.

We have Jotforms set up with PayPal Checkout embedded in them but payments are not showing up in the Jotform submissions form.
I have read through your guide above and we already have IPN enabled within PayPal although our default notification URL is not set to Jotform (we have other systems which take PayPal payments). Is there something else I now need to do?
