I am trying to connect my phone to get a notification when I get a submission, but no verification code is being sent to my phone or my husbands phone. Trying to figure out how to get it connected

Hi Blair,
If you are using your phone number as the recipient email on your notification email, this will only be possible if your mobile network provider allows it. You can find your SMS gateway on the following list on this page and construct your email address using this format:
number@serviceProvider.com
Replace the word number with your mobile number. Here's an example for a T-Mobile email provider:
2221234567@t-mobile.net
