HI, I added a unique ID widget to create application numbers. Each submission should have an application number that is four digits for the year 'dash' four digits from the Unique ID widget. I had several test submissions with the same ID number, then several numbers would be skipped. How do I make sure, the ID number is progressing with each submission?

Hi QOL,
Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. Let me help you with the Unique ID widget issue.
The Unique ID widget is designed to generate sequential numbers, but sometimes you may see repeated or skipped numbers due to how submissions are processed or saved. To ensure that the ID number progresses correctly with each submission, here are some important points to consider:
- The Unique ID widget generates numbers when the form is submitted. If a submission is started but not completed or saved as a draft, the number may be skipped.
- Multiple test submissions done in quick succession might cause the widget to assign the same number temporarily due to processing delays.
- Make sure you do not have any conditions or integrations that reset or interfere with the Unique ID widget.
To minimize skipped or repeated numbers, avoid saving incomplete drafts and try to space out test submissions. Unfortunately, the Unique ID widget does not guarantee perfectly continuous numbers if submissions are not completed or if there are interruptions.
If you want a format like four digits for the year followed by a four-digit unique number, you can configure the widget's prefix for the year and set the number length accordingly.
Give it a try and let us know how it goes.
