Hello, as the question states above, if a user tries to fill out a form with a payment widget, but the payment does not go through, does the form submit?

Hi Jennifer,
I'm an AI assistant. I'll do my best to help you until someone from the support team is available.
If a user tries to fill out a form with a payment widget but the payment does not go through, the form submission typically does not complete successfully. The payment needs to be processed for the form submission to be considered complete. If the payment fails, the form will not submit the payment information, and the submission may not be recorded as finalized.
Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi Jennifer,
Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. If a user fills out a form that includes a payment widget and the payment does not go through, the form does not submit as a completed entry. Instead, Jotform records it as an incomplete payment. This typically occurs when:
- The user abandons the payment page (e.g., closes the browser or doesn’t finish checkout)
- The transaction is declined or fails due to card issues
- The payment gateway (like PayPal Checkout or Stripe Checkout) redirects off-page and the user doesn’t return
Jotform records the payment as incomplete if the user abandons or closes the redirected payment page. Let me show you how to check it:
1. Open your form in Form Builder, click on the Downward Arrow icon next to the Jotform Logo and select Table.
2. In the Submission Table, click on the Three Dots icon, located in the main tab in the green menu bar, and then click on Incomplete Payments.
3. Now, check Select All, and then click on Complete to view the submission in Submission table.
Give it a try and reach out again if you have any other questions.

Hi Arslan,
Thank you for your response! In that case, is there anything we can do so that the form doesn't submit if payment isn't completed and so that the user knows that their payment declined?
Or can we use "payment completed" as a trigger in a Workflow as opposed to "form submitted" so we can make sure that the next steps in our flow executes for clients who've paid?

Hi Jennifer,
I'm afraid workflows are triggered only upon form submission. Even if the submissions are marked as completed in the submission tables, it will not trigger recharging of the user's payment method. You will need to ask the user to fill out the form again and process the payment.
Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi Mary,
Thank you for your response.
To clarify, our main concern is payment confirmation. We want to ensure that the automation workflow in our external tool is only triggered when a successful payment has been completed through the Jotform payment widget.
Can you confirm whether a Jotform submission is only finalized (and therefore triggers integrations/workflows) after payment is successfully processed, or if the form can still be marked as “submitted” even when the payment fails or is declined?
In short — we’re looking for a reliable way to use payment confirmation (not just form submission) as the trigger for our automation, so that next steps only execute for clients who have actually paid.
Best,
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,
As long as the form is submitted successfully, this will trigger the workflow. If the payment fails or declined, the form will not be submitted.
