Jotform Boards: Automatically update Card Header when submission is edited

Asked on September 17, 2025 at 4:04 AM
Good Day,
I am using the board functionality and have found that even though I have linked the card header fields to fields in my submissions, they are not updating if I edit the submission.
This renders the board invalid as a management tool, (like Trello).
Is this currently on the bug list or feature to-be-developed list?
Kind Regards
Gail

Hi Gail,
Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. Currently, the Board functionality does not automatically update card headers with edited submission values. However, you can still customize and manage the layout of your board. You can show or hide selected fields on your cards to emphasize the most critical information. Let me show you how:
1. On your Jotform Board, click on Board Settings in the top-right corner of the page.
2. In the menuthat opens up, click on Card View.
3. Now, click on the Eye icon on the right side of a task field to hide or display it.
4. While you’re here, you can also preview the new card to see what it’ll look like.
If that’s not quite what you’re looking for, can you share a bit more info so I can help you better? Can you share your form link with me so I can take a closer look? You can easily find your form's URL in Form Builder. Let me show you how:
In Form Builder, in the orange navigation bar at the top of the page, click on Publish.
In the Quick Share tab, click on Copy Link in the Share With Link section.
Once you share the form URL with us, we’ll be able to help you better with this.

Thanks Leona,
I am familiar with the field and card layout functionality already.
I am an extensive jotform user and am busy writing a proposal for a client to give them a jotform system., so was just checking if the functionality on the board would meet my needs.
It is very disappointing that the card header does not update on an edit. I question what is the point of linking it to a form field then?
Some of the ways in which the header displays data is nicer than on the card body, i.e. using colours for dates, the tags as a colour button etc. and those would have been nice to have in the header to manage cards on the board at a glance.
I'd love to know what the "concept" behind designing the boards was from a Jotform perspective, to understand why these updates were left out. Is it being tabled to change?
I have used jotform intergrating to Trello for years now, and I was very excited to see Jotform build a "trello" board with integration back to the submission. However from the first few boards I've created, I feel there is much more that can be done.
Reach out if you want real user feedback.
Kind Regards
Gail

Hi Leona,
In addition, I just want to point out that the filters on the board only use the HEADER fields, so if i want to filter the board based on the due date that has come from the submission, and the submission has been edited and the due date updated, the board filter is no longer valid. This makes the functionality pointless. SO if I remove the header fields from the cards, because they actually reflect outdated information, then I have no way of filtering the board, except by the title.
Updating the header fields is a critical step to use all the functionality of the board.
Please escalate this as a feature that should be updated.
Thanks

Hi Gail,
I can replicate the issue. Looks like that feature isn’t available just yet. I’ve passed your request along to our Developers so they can review it. Whether or not it’s developed, and when, will depend on their workload, how doable it is, and how many other users ask for it too. If/when there are any updates, we’ll update this thread so you’re the first to know.

Hi Gail,
Thank you for using Jotform Boards and sharing your valuable feedback. I see your need here. Let me explain the idea behind it:
Boards is not intended to be a kanban view version of the Jotform Tables. It is designed like an internal integration which allows more flexible connections like multiple assets (forms, workflow, sign doc, AI agent) connected to a board, a form connected to multiple boards etc.
In this perspective, tasks are not equal to submissions, but submissions are an attachment to the tasks. Field matching is like initialization, which allows users to edit while they process the tasks. For example: Due Date is generated from a form field, but users edit it while the task is moving towards the right, as the due date varies for each major phase.
This being said, I clearly understand your need. To satisfy various user needs, an ideal solution might be to provide the option to lock the fields or not, which is under consideration.
Lastly, there are a couple of workarounds I can offer for now:
The filter section works for Task Fields only, but Search works for all fields. Writing the desired value in the search box will bring up the tasks with that.
If the form field updates happen in bulk, you can update field matching settings by clicking on Update all existing tasks toggle.
Please let us know if you have further questions/comments.
Thank you
G

Thank you for providing some clarity.
You have a great product. Try not to miss the boat on the boards. It is a great feature, but definitely needs some thinking around its purpose in real system situations. It is fabulous that it has the link to edit a submission as part of the card (as that is sometimes a challenge), but in any "system" you only want one version of the truth. If the submission is edited and the board holds a different value, the truth is no longer clear.
