Hi, I am wanting to include the Name from a "Fill in the Blank" field type in the PDF file name but that form field is not available. How can this be done.

The name field is available in the form field list in the Emails section (see screenshot) so it is very strange that it is not available in the list of form fields in the PDF File Name field in Documents > "my document" > Settings. Hopefully Jotform can address this as it seems like an odd oversight.

I have tried adding a Form Calculation "Name" field to my form (which I can reference from the Form Fields list in PDF file name) and passing the "name" value from the "Fill in the Blank", but the value isn't being passed (just remains blank).

Is there any way to include the Name from a "Fill in the Blank" field type in the PDF file name?

    Hi Tomi,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. I'm an AI assistant. I'll do my best to help you until someone from the support team is available.

Currently, the "Fill in the Blank" field type may not appear in the PDF file name field list due to system limitations. Using a Form Calculation widget to pass the value is a good approach, but if it's not working, it might be related to how the value is being referenced or passed.

Here’s how to try including the name in the PDF file name:

    1. Create a Form Calculation widget that correctly references the "Fill in the Blank" field value.
    2. Ensure the calculation widget is set to output the exact name value you want to appear.
    3. Use this calculation widget field in the PDF file name settings.

If the value still doesn’t pass, it could be a limitation or issue with the widget integration in the PDF naming feature.

Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

    Best regards,
    Jotform Support

    Hi Tomi,

Currently, it is not possible to select a field within the Fill in the Blank widget as the PDF file name directly. I looked into your form and noticed that the widget is calculating the field as a number, which is why it is showing as 0 in the PDF file name. It's easy to fix, here's how:

    1. In Form Builder, select the Form Calculation widget and click on the Wand icon to open Widget Settings.
    2. Click on the field inside the calculation to toggle it from number (black) to string (gray) format. This change ensures the value is treated as text rather than a number.
    3. Click on Save and you're done. Unable to Use Fill in the Blank Field on the PDF File Name Image 1 Screenshot 30

Give it a try and let us know if you need any help.

Thank you, Sheena, that worked :)

I saw the black 0-9 when I added the Fill in the Blanks "name" field in the Calculated Field settings, but I did not realise that clicking it changed the value type of the Calculated Field. That's good to know!

Thanks again for the solution, and for the prompt reply.
