I'm trying to use the Prefill From Tables functionality, but when I generate the prefills, it's placing the submission ID as the name, with makes my prefill completely worthless as I don't know who it belongs to. I suppose I could follow the link to find out, but that kind of defeats the whole purpose, doesn't it?
Is there any way to control what gets placed in the name field?

Hi Camp,
Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. I'm an AI assistant. I'll do my best to help you until someone from the support team is available.
Regarding your issue with the Prefill From Tables functionality placing the submission ID as the name, this happens because the prefill label defaults to the submission identifier. Unfortunately, you cannot directly control what appears in the name field during the prefill creation process as it uses the submission ID for labeling.
However, you can rename the prefill labels manually after creating them to something more meaningful, like the user's actual name, to help you identify each prefill easily.
Here’s how to manage your prefills:
- Go to the Prefill menu in your form's Publish tab.
- Select the prefill item you want to rename.
- Use the Rename option to change the label to the desired name.
This way, you can keep track of which prefill belongs to whom without relying on the submission ID.
Let us know if you need further assistance.
Give it a try and let us know how it goes.
Best regards,

Wow, if that's the case, I wonder why you even bothered to provide that functionality to the public because I can't imagine very many people find it useful with those restrictions!

Hi Camp,
I understand your frustration. The Prefill From Tables feature currently uses the submission ID as the default label, which can be limiting. We appreciate your feedback and will pass it along to our development team for consideration in future updates.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
Best regards,

Hi realcampcardboard,
Regarding your question about the Manual Prefill feature placing the submission ID as the name in the URL, unfortunately, the system uses the submission ID by default as the identifier in the prefill URL. There is no built-in option to change this to use the actual Name field or any other field instead of the submission ID in the URL.
But, you can manually rename the prefill labels after creating them to something more meaningful, such as the user's actual name, to help you identify each prefill easily in your Prefill list. Here's how:
1. In Form Builder, go to Publish from the top menu.
2. Select Prefill from the left, then click on Manual Prefill.
3. In your individual Prefills, click on the Three Dots icon.
4. From the Sub-menu, select Rename.
5. Then manually Type the user's First/Last Name.
If you want the name to appear in the URL or be used as an identifier, this is not currently supported by Jotform's Prefill functionality.
