Hello, I hope your day is going great. I have a question regarding creating a rule/function for when JotForm automatically populates a Submission ID per JotForm submission. I would need the Submission ID to be a combination of the "Submission Date" and "Serial Number"
Additionally, I would also like to know if there is a way to reformat the Submission Date Format.
Thanks!

Hi Ryan,
Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. Submission IDs can't be modified. But, if you want to make a custom Submission ID with the date and the field named Serial Number, I recommend you add a Date Picker field with the current date as its Default Value, and a Form Calculation widget to combine the current date and the serial number. That's easy to do. Let me walk you through setting it up:
- In Form Builder, click on Add Element in the upper-left side of the page.
- In the Form Elements menu on the left, under the Basic tab, drag and drop Date Picker to your form.
- Click on the Gear icon in the Date Picker field to open the Date Picker menu on the right.
- In the Date Picker menu, under the Options tab, in the Default Date section, select Current.
- Then, in the Form Elements menu on the left, go to the Widgets tab this time.
- Look up Form Calculation, drag and drop it to your form, and then rename it.
- Click on the Wand icon in the Form Calculation widget.
- In the menu that shows on the right side of the page, click on Add Field.
- Then, in the window that appears, select the Date Picker field and the Serial Number field.
- Finally, click on 0-9(Number) in both fields to change them to A-Z(String), then click on Save.
Check out the screencast below to see my results:
You can also easily hide the Date Picker field and Form Calculation widget. Here's how to do that:
- In Form Builder, click on the Date or Custom Submission ID field, then click on the Gear icon.
- In the menu that shows on the right side of the screen, go to the Advanced tab.
- Finally, scroll down and toggle On the Hide Field option.
Give it a try and let us know if you have any other questions.
