Hi Kofi,
Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. I understand that you are unable to access your form due to encrypted files and have lost the encryption access key because the computer it was on is down.
Jotform uses end-to-end encryption for encrypted forms, meaning only the person with the encryption access key (access code) can decrypt and view the form submissions. Unfortunately, if you lose this access key, the encrypted data cannot be decrypted or recovered by Jotform or anyone else. This is a security feature to protect your sensitive data.
Here are some important points:
- You can decrypt encrypted submissions by entering your private key (access code) in Jotform Tables or Jotform Inbox.
- If the computer with the access key is down and you do not have the key saved elsewhere, the encrypted data is inaccessible.
- Jotform cannot retrieve or reset the encryption key for you because the encryption is end-to-end and private.
If you still have access to the form builder, you can disable encryption and create a new encryption access code for future submissions, but this will not give you access to previously encrypted submissions. Let me show you how:
1. In Form Builder, in the orange navigation bar on the top, click on Settings.
2. Click on the Encryption button to disable it.
For more detailed guidance on encrypted forms and how to use them, you can visit our user guide on Encrypted Forms and How to Use Them.
