I am formally requesting an improvement to a widget I use with Jotform. I need a way for judges to select between 3 and 10 science fair exhibits to evaluate.
Normally, I would use the Gift Registry or Ticket Purchase widget. However, the Ticket Purchase widget has a bug that allows users to submit fewer than three items, and the Gift Registry only allows for a maximum selection, not a minimum.
Additionally, both widgets limit the number of items per field to about 75-80. Since I have 150 exhibits, I had to split the selection into two fields. This creates a problem because I can't limit the total number of selected items from both fields to between 3 and 10 before submission. This requires me to manually check hundreds of submissions to ensure judges select the correct number of exhibits. Additionally, the "inventory" of exhibits becomes disrupted, which affects the quantity of exhibits "left" or "available" to judges from which to select.
I tried the Quantity Gift Registry widget, but it doesn't let me limit judges to selecting only one of each exhibit. The Inventory widget is not practical to use because it requires me to set up 150 separate fields!
My request is for Jotform to:
- enhance either the Gift Registry or Ticket Purchase widget to count the total number of selected items
- fix the Ticket Purchase widget to ensure the minimum selection setting works (no fewer than three exhibits selected)
- enhance the Quantity Gift Registry widget to limit the quantity that a user can enter for any one item to be below the available inventory (such as a user can only enter 1 regardless of how many of the item are left)
I could then use the Form Calculation widget to ensure that the judge cannot submit their form unless the total count of selections between the two fields is between 3-10.
Without this enhancement, using Jotform, at least for this application, becomes very problematic.
- enhance either the Gift Registry or

Hi pcdctcsf,
Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. I understand you want to use the widgets, but you're having issues with limiting it to 3 to 10 selections only. Based on the scenario you shared, you want the judges to be able to choose exhibits. Can you confirm if the count of each exhibit matters as shown below?
In the 3rd item in your request, you mentioned to enhance the Quantity Gift Registry widget to limit the quantity that a user can enter for any one item to be below the available inventory. Does that mean you still want to be able to let the judges select the item even if the item count is already 0?
Based on the requirements you mentioned, you can use the Multiple Choice element for this. It will let the judges select 3 to 10 options. Here's how to do that:
- In Form Builder, click on the Add Element menu on the left side of the page.
- Under the Basic tab, click on the Multiple Choice element and click on the Gear icon on the right.
- On the right panel that shows, under the Options tab, list down all options available, and in the Surveying tab, enable the Entry Limits option.
- Enter your Minimum and Maximum, and that's it.
Here's a sample result:
Give it a try and let us know how it goes.

In answer to your questions:
- Can you confirm if the count of each exhibit matters as shown below?
Yes, the count of any one exhibit must be one. A judge cannot select the same exhibit more than once! But the "inventory" or number of available selections for an exhibit can be any number (typically from 5 to 12) For example, if exhibit #1 has an "inventory" of 5 slots, then no more than 5 judges can select that exhibit. Exhibit #2 can have 8 slots, #3, 10 slots, etc. But if judge #1 selects exhibits #1, 2, and 3, then he has selected a total count of three exhibits, and the inventory of those exhibits drops to 4, 7, and 9 respectively to show as what is available for another judge to select. - [In the Quantity Gift Registry widget,] Does that mean you still want to be able to let the judges select the item even if the item count is already 0?
No. If the "inventory" is already 0, then a judge can no longer select that exhibit because there are no more "slots" available. But if the the number of slots available, for example is 6, I don't want the judge to enter more than 1 in the quantity because they cannot select the same exhibit more than once! The result should be that for the next judge, there would be 5 available, and so on. (The only reason why I would use this widget is because I can get a total number of exhibits selected)
I cannot use the Multiple Choice element because there would be no way to limit the selection of an exhibit to the number of available slots left. In your example if there were only 6 slots for Exhibit 1, I could see a scenario where more than six judges select exhibit 1 on their Mutiple Choice field.
This is why I use either the Gift Registry or Ticket Purchase widget because they allow me to specify an "inventory" of slots available for a judge to select an exhibit. My problem is that I have no way with either widget to count the number of exhibits selected by a judge. As I mentioned previously, if I use the Quantity Gift Registry widget, but the judge can accidentally enter a number greater than one in the "quantity" for an exhibit which messes up the inventory for that exhibit. I need for a judge to only be able to enter 1 (unless of course there is 0 available)

Hi pcdctcsf,
Your request for these enhancements is clear and would indeed improve the functionality for scenarios like yours, where inventory management and minimum/maximum selections are critical.
While these improvements are not currently available as built-in features, your feedback is valuable for our development team to consider for future updates. Exactly when or if it's developed depends on their workload, how viable it is, and how many other users also request it.
We appreciate your patience and detailed input, and we will keep you informed if there are any updates regarding these widget enhancements.
Let us know if you need any other help.
