Hello,
I’m reaching out because I’m having trouble accessing the responses to one of my encrypted forms. A few days ago, I enabled form encryption and used a computer-generated password. Unfortunately, it seems the password wasn't saved properly, and now I can't access the responses—it tells me the password is incorrect.
I also don’t have the .key file, or at least I can’t locate it on my device.
Is there any way to regain access to the encrypted responses or to reset the form encryption? I would really appreciate any help or guidance, as the data collected is very important.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
Best regards,
Bautista

Hi Bautista,
Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. Unfortunately, if you have lost the private key, there is not much that can be done to regain access to your encrypted data. The data is secured using end-to-end encryption, and without the key, it is not possible to decrypt the submissions. We recommend turning off encryption to start receiving submissions normally again. Here’s how to turn off encryption:
- In the Form Builder, go to the Settings tab.
- Look for Encrypt Form Data and toggle it to No.
Make sure to keep your private key safe in the future, as losing it means you cannot access your encrypted data.
Let us know if there’s anything else we can help you with.
