Hi,
Is there an uncomplicated method to recode a response to a numerical value in the spreadsheet. For instance, if someone chooses Strongly Agree, it is represented in the spreadsheet with the number 5 instead of the words.
Thank you,
-

Hi Education_JAEI,
Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. Yes, there's a simple way to assign numerical values to response options like Strongly Agree and have those values appear in the spreadsheet. You can do this by adding a Form Calculation widget to your form. Here’s how to do it:
First, we need to add a Single Choice element and set it up. Here's how to do it:
- In Form Builder, click on the Add Element on the left side of the page.
- Add a Single Choice element to your form.
- Click on the gear icon to open the Single Choice Properties window.
- In the Single Choice Properties window, click on the Options tab.
- In the Options tab, set the value of the Options textarea just like in the image.
- Turn on the Calculation Values option.
- Set the Condition Values just like in the image below.
Next, we need to add a Form Calculation widget. Here's how to do it:
- In Form Builder, click on the Add Element on the left side of the page.
- Click on the Widgets tab.
- Click on the Form Calculation widget.
- Click on the wand icon.
- Click on the Add Field button.
- Select the Type a Question option.
- Click on the Save button.
Here's the sample output:
Give it a try and let us know if you have any other questions.
- In Form Builder, click on the Add Element on the left side of the page.
