How to create a button that allows the form to be edited otherwise remain read only?

    Dear JotForm Support Team,

I need a functionality where clicking a button makes a field editable; otherwise, the field should remain read-only. Could you please guide me on how to implement this in JotForm?

    Looking forward to your assistance.

    Best regards,

    Ekta Nigam

    Hi Ekta,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. Just to confirm, do you wish to add a button in the form that allows the form to be editable or read-only? Currently, we have the Read Only option in the field's properties that allows you to enable this if you wish the field not to be edited. Take a look at the screenshot below:

Lastly, you can also change your form field’s required flag using conditional logic. This is useful if you need to conditionally turn your optional fields required or vice versa by using the Enable/Require/Mask Field condition. But can you share more information on what would you like to achieve with the button and how the form works this way we can find you a workaround?

Once we hear back from you, we'll be able to move forward with a solution.

I need to create a form that displays field values when a user logs in. By default, the fields should be read-only, but if the user wants to edit their details, they can click an Edit button to make the fields editable.

Additionally, I checked masking in JotForm, but I am unable to use it on the button.

    Hi Ekta,

Unfortunately, this feature is currently not available at Jotform right now, we've gone ahead and escalated your request to our developers. Exactly when or if it's developed depends on their workload, how viable it is, and how many other users also request it. If there are any updates, we’ll circle back to this thread and let you know.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, we appreciate it.

    Hi Shirized,

I'm not sure if I was clear previously, so I am explaining my requirement again.

Whenever we open any form in Jotform, it opens in detail page format in read-only view. I need an additional button there with the name "Edit". When a user clicks that button, the form will open in editable mode, so that the user can modify the details of the fields and then save.

Is this possible through Jotform? Please review and let me know.

    Hi Ekta,

If I understand you correctly, you want to add an edit button to the form that will allow you to edit entered data when submission is edited. If so, to meet your requirements, you can add a Get Form Page URL widget then Button Radios widget then set conditional logics using Enable/Require/Mask Field and Show/Hide Field elements. Let me show you how to set that up:

    1. In Form Builder, click on the Add Element button, then go to the Widgets Tab and search for Get Form Page URL widget and add it to the form.

    3. Under General Tab, enter Edit [Edit data] on the Options box and once done click on the Update button.

    5. Select Enable/Require/Mask Field and Show/Hide Field elements from the options.

Check out the screencast below to see my results:

Give it a try and let us know if you have any other questions.
